Today (June 3) is the 52nd martyrdom anniversary of martyred intellectual Principal Mohsin Ali Dewan. On this day in 1971, Mohsin Ali Dewan was abducted from his Bogra residence by Pakistani invasion forces with the help of Razakars. He was the Principal of Bogra Sherpur Degree College and the Editor of the weekly North Bengal Bulletin at the time of his martyrdom.

Martyred intellectual Mohsin Ali Dewan’s teaching career began as a lecturer in the Bangla Department of Naogaon College. Later he became a professor and the Head of the Bengali Department of Bogra Azizul Haque College. He is one of the founders of Jaipurhat College, Bogra Law College and Shah Sultan College.

Martyr intellectual Principal Mohsin Ali Dewan’s journalism started through Dhaka Daily Ittehad and Insaf. In 1960, under his editing and publication, the literary magazine “Ataeb” was published from Bogra. In addition, he edited and published the first evening Daily Janomat of Bangladesh. He is the founder president of Bogra Press Club.

Bangladesh Postal Department released a postage stamp in recognition of martyred intellectual Mohsin Ali Dewan’s sacrifice. The present government has named a street in Bogra after him. The country’s largest development organization TMSS has introduced Shahid Mohsin Ali Dewan Award in Journalism to honour him.
